Introducing Barbara (Basia) Chmurak - Technical Lead, Scaler Finishing

How long have you been with Hu-Friedy?
35 years.
What brought you to work for Hu-Friedy?
I came to the United States from Poland in 1971 and found a job at a plastics company. The conditions of this job were very poor. I was disappointed with my position and almost decided to go back to Poland. In 1972, a friend of mine introduced me to a man named Richard Saslow, who invited me to come in to a company called Hu-Friedy. I got a job the next day and have been here ever since.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Learning many different kinds of jobs and growing my skills as an instrument maker. I also love to work with all the wonderful people at Hu-Friedy and I love to see my customers, managers, and teammates satisfied.
Do you have a favorite Hu-Friedy memory?
On my 25th anniversary at Hu-Friedy, the company organized a surprise party to recognize my time here. The day of the party, they kept me busy in the office all day and then the Executive Team walked me out to the factory. When we opened the door, everyone yelled, ""SURPRISE!"" Everyone in the company was there, there were flowers and balloons set up, and management was serving food to everybody. It was a big shock to me and it made me feel so good!
What is the greatest thing you have learned from your work?
Hu-Friedy offered us a lot of different classes. I learned how to speak English at Hu-Friedy, how to interact with people, how to manage a team, and so on. This has not only helped me in my job but also in my home life. I graduated from Hu-Friedy College!
