Introducing Patricia Parker, RDH - Business Unit Manager, Powerscaling

How long have you been with Hu-Friedy?
Nearly 11 years.

How did your transition from hygienist to dental industry professional take place?
During my years of clinical practice, I also worked with my husband in our family business. I gained experience in accounting as well as sales and marketing aspects of the business. I really enjoyed it but did not want to walk away from the dental profession. I made the decision to return to school to get my business degree and to seek a position in the dental market. My first role at Hu-Friedy as a Market Leader was a great entry into the industry. I was responsible for developing custom instruments for universities and dental practitioners, conducting market research and serving as the customer advocate on issues of quality and/or customer requirements. My business background and formal training combined with my understanding of the clinical needs of dental and dental hygiene practitioners was valuable to making a successful transition from clinical practice.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I love working with cross-functional teams developing new products. I have the opportunity to interact regularly with practicing dental hygienist and dentists, so I continue to be involved in the clinical side of dentistry. In my opinion, it is the best of both worlds!

Do you have a favorite Hu-Friedy memory?
Receiving the Presidents Award (awarded by President, Ron Saslow to employee who has demonstrated great leadership, flexibility, and teamwork) for my contributions on the development and launch of our patented Swivel ultrasonic inserts.

What sets Hu-Friedy apart from other companies in the industry?
The people and the commitment to excellence. Hu-Friedy is a great place to work because of the friendly and highly dedicated individuals that make, market and sell the highest quality instruments in the industry.

Is there anything you miss about being a practicing hygienist?
I always enjoyed seeing the familiar faces of patients I had cared for over the years.
